The Painfluencer Programme is a multi-day training course for professionals. Designed to build sustainable workforce capability in pain education, it’s our take on the ‘train the trainer’ and pain coaching models.

Painfluencers are equipped to share consistent, evidence-based pain messaging across teams and communities, helping spread the Flippin’ Pain message further.

Why Painfluencers matter

Chronic pain places significant demand on health and care systems. Variation in knowledge, misconceptions about pain, and inconsistent messaging can impact patient outcomes, service use and staff confidence.

The Painfluencer Programme addresses these challenges by:

  • Embedding up-to-date pain science and best-practice guidance

  • Standardising clear, positive, and evidence-based messaging

  • Increasing workforce confidence, empathy and communication skills

  • Enabling scalable, sustainable knowledge transfer across organisations and communities

“One of the most important aspects of the course is the use of language and terminology when speaking to clients and how this can shape people’s perception of pain.”

- Jack, Health & Fitness Coordinator, Tees Active

What we deliver

The course is normally delivered over three days and covers a range of skills related to communication.

  • Sessions involve a deep dive into the key principles and the science behind Flippin’ Pain, building a depth of understanding, improving empathy and insight:

    • The science of pain: mechanisms, persistence, and common misconceptions

    • Translating evidence into clear, actionable communication

    • Use of storytelling and metaphors to drive understanding

    • Techniques to address scepticism and challenging conversations

    • Practical delivery skills for a range of contexts

    • Observed assessment and feedback.

Participants complete a relevant assessment (called ‘The Painfluencer Pitstop’) to achieve accredited Painfluencer status.

  • Commissioning the programme enables:

    • A trained network of internal pain champions (‘Painfluencers’)

    • Improved consistency in patient messaging and self-management support

    • Enhanced staff confidence and engagement

    • Capability to support community-based models (e.g. pain cafés, peer support networks).

  • On completion, Painfluencers are fully equipped to deliver locally, with:

    • License to share and educate using Flippin’ Pain branded information.

    • Access to digital toolkits and Flippin’ Pain resources

    • Ongoing professional development and support clinics

    • Recognition through digital accreditation and national network membership

    • A Flippin’ Pain uniform, water bottle and other exclusive merch!

  • The programme can be tailored to meet the specific needs of different teams, settings and populations, ensuring content and assessment are directly relevant to local priorities and workforce roles.

  • "The sessions equipped me with the knowledge and confidence to deliver the workshop effectively to a diverse audience, and having a strong belief in the Flippin’ Pain message added to that confidence."

Emma, Quality & Improvement Lead, CADAS

  • “The course was very intense but also rewarding, and I have already been applying the programme’s principles during consultations with members of the public.”
